and my life comes full circle.
backstory: when i was in fourth grade i was an avid reader. one day i was writing an essay of sorts in class and went up to my teacher, mrs. santana, to ask her a question: "how do you spell color?" she proceeded to mock me in front of the class for being so ridiculous as to ask how to spell color. what she didn't know was that i was in the middle of reading a series of book by a british author where color was spelled colour, and i just wanted to know which was the right way. it was mortifying.
and now, two days ago. i am shopping in soho, walking down broadway in beautiful weather, when a muscular guy in a tank top holding a cell phone stops me.
guy: hey, do you know how to spell "color?"
me: (short pause, look of amazement) yeah..c-o-l-o-r.
guy: thanks! (starts to text on his phone)
and all is right in the world.
