ink and watercolor on bristol, click to enlarge.
inspired by last summer’s portrait series “i have a crush on you,” this summer i’m doing a series of portraits of pop culture women i love, called “the ladies.” and who better to start with than the GIRLS themselves? for better or for worse i am a huge fan of the show, and i had a great time drawing these confused 20-somethings.

LIFE UPDATE!
1. i’ve officially graduated from college. i now have two associate degrees, one in fashion illustration and one in communication design. while modern society has tried to convince me that i can’t do anything in life unless i have a bachelors degree, i’ve decided that i would benefit more from internships and work experience than another two years in school. so i’m done.
2. next week i start two internships along with keeping my part time job at apple. one is unpaid at would you rock this, an online fashion illustration community. i’m going to be helping with site design and preparation for a fashion illustration exhibit at the brooklyn library this fall. the other internship is paid and full-time, as a graphic design intern at west elm’s corporate office in brooklyn. this is SUPER exciting since it perfectly blends my love of graphic design and interior design. i’ll be working on the website, catalog, packaging, email blasts, etcetera. and i get to bike to work! dream job.
3. even though i’ve discussed it on facebook and twitter i don’t think i ever discussed it here: my kickstarter project was successfully funded, and nate and i were contacted by no starch press (a publisher in san francisco) who wants to publish our book. we signed a contract last week so we now have a book deal! we’ll be working on it all summer, and hopefully it will be in bookstores across the country this winter. we’re ecstatic; it’s incredible that our little project will be something anyone can pick up in barnes and noble. totally not what we were expecting.
4. i turn 23 in july, and a couple of days after that i run out of queued content for kim gee comics. i’m considering taking a summer sabbatical from comics to focus on my (three!) jobs, but i have a feeling i won’t be able to go very long without starting a new project. i’m thinking about dabbling in fiction since i might have exhausted writing about my personal life. i want to get back to my illustration roots, start working with brush and ink again, start really spending time on my comics. the sketchbook style has served me well thus far, but i’m ready to buckle down and sweat over making comics. it’s time.
5. life is good, basically.
